i was on another site not a car site but they said they would not touch a punto coz the head gaskets go and the electrics bugger up, im getting a little paranoid now about fiat. surely every car has problems not just fiats

Yes. Some more than others. Fiats do go wrong more often than some but they are by no means the worst.
but do they have more problems then other cars?
compared to what? lad riva,maclaren F1?

That is such a subjective question. Does more problems just mean different types or how often they reappear or how serious they are. Also everyone will have a different experience.
I met a guy today who had a 6 year old Punto with 120,000 miles on the clock and said he had never had any problems with it, and he had it from new.
I also ran into a guy I sold a GP to 6 months ago his car was at 5000 miles and it was in for a wheel bearing.
If your comparing to every other car on the roads then Fiats have less problems.
80,000 miles/5 years from new....only problem was a outer door handle that snapped.I'm happy with mine
its just what everyone has been saying about fiats that a lot of things go wrong compared with cars, hopefully it will be nice weather tomorrow coz i want to give mine a clean.
oh no tell a lie.........n/s dip beam bulb blew few years back
so its just like any car really they all have there own little problems thats all i really wanted to know.
My punto is 10 years old, I'd have had it for 2 n a bit years, or 35k miles, I've never had electrical problems, hg never gone, just some sump/suspension issues, which could happen on any car.

you get a lot of brain dead gimps saying puntos are crap, fiat have been using the same engine for over 20 years that the punto has, you think they would still be doing that if it was crap?

Mercedes holds the world record in a single recall: 658,000 cars. This is a cue of nearly 2000 miles of Mercedes.
But their respective owners insist on how good they are. As a matter of fact Mercedes was in 2007 a daily guest on the German TV because of reliability issues.
