why do they have to make everything such hard work???

My exhaust needs replacing, a replacement is £140, last time i had an exhaust like this on a car it lasted less than 1.5 years. A replacment made from stainless steel which does not alter the performance, sound or look of the car is £280 but is guarenteed for 25 years. Hmmm me thinks, 3 years and this stainless will have paid for itself (assuming i keep the car that long).

I ring the insurance broker who checks it on the computer with the underwriter, they won't insure that modification. If i want the exhaust i would have to start over with my insurance and take out a policy £300 more than my current annual premium!

All it is is a different metal type FFS!!!

Anyway, i'm gunna write a bitchy letter or email to the underwriter and see if i can pressure them into it!

Hi Alan

Am in a similar situation myself, in the throws of replacing the exhaust for a 'Cat back' stainless steel one (although my current exhaust is only 3months old! - I've only owned the car for a month, but want to upgrade).

What model Bravo is yours? Is the broker you refer to, the one you currently have a policy with? Who is this insurer? (always the possibility if you wanted, you could have my exhaust off me for nominal sum, if you didn't opt for a s/s??)

Whilst my car currently has no mods, I am also going to add (besides the stainless steel exhast) induction kit and have it lowered with new 17's on.

Thing is my insurance is being renewed today. So whilst the truth is that my car does currently have no mods, I hadn't yet decided myself what to own up to having had done to the car (very soon infact). Your predicament has me wondering now! (I've already ordered the exhaust)

My Quote (with AXA) was hundreds less than the next nearest though, so I suspect any hike in premium (were I to admit to these mods in due course) would still put my premium no higher than the rest. 300 is one hell of a hike though!!

get the quotes with the mods else you'll end up stuck like i am. My broker is Endsleigh and the underwriter is Cornhill.

I have just had a quote off elephant.co.uk with the exhaust for £666.75 for a 1.6sx. My current insurance cost me £590 6 months ago, both with my girlfriend as a named driver so their £300 increase is just taking the ****

The problem with getting the insurance with out mods then adding them is they can hike the price up as they know you won't want to cancel the insurance mid policy as you will lose you no claims you have earned this year.

Some insurers are more tolerant to mods and they will give a competitive quote to get you with them the first year.
