General I got a fright

...when I got into my car on Friday, I knew it was low on fuel, but when I'd got out last, it said I had 39miles left.

But on starting up again, about 20mins later, the range said ---mpg[:0]

Not wishing to panic, I tickled it all the way to the nearest garage, once full my range was working again.

Has anyone else notice the range funtion suddenly just dropping off like this?

It does this automatically, inside the last 30 miles of the predicted tank. Basically because it's impossible to predict the length of the tank when it is this low.

Range to empty -- Miles, range to CAT failure 0 miles!

You should never let you tank run that low, unless of course you think you'll be able to get a replacement CAT under warranty. Its not a pretty site seeing a grown man cry afterall! :I

The Range function in disabled as soon as the fuel level is on the RED (on the reserve) ... since you have 7 or 8 litres on the reserve calculate the range yourself.

Janjevj, my range function works well into the reserve, when the red light comes on I've usually got about 100miles (or 160 of your kilometers)

On my Punto its more like 90 miles - as soon as the light comes on. But then I have got 500 miles form a tank.

I checked the 'range to empty' function a couple of times in the reserve ... and i got --- ... maybe because the fact that i checked it when i was too damn low on fuel.
