General Hydraulic lifters? punto jtd

Hi there, has anyone ever changed the hydraulic lifters on a punto jtd, mine has a rather loud rattle that seems not too bad when the engine is cold and gets worse the warmer the engine gets,
i've heard that this could possibly be the cush drive on the crankshaft though! I'm near certain its top end rattle though.
Anyone have any experience with this before? Thanks in advance

A 2000 Punto diesel doesn't have hydraulic lifters. It has replaceable shims to adjust the valve clearances.

I see, are they available from fiat only and are they very expensive? I'd really like to sort the rattle out coz the car sounds like a sewing machine at 2500 rpm, my gfriend overtook me the other day and i had to chuckle, its really loud!!!

Tappet clearances usually dont suddenly go out. Another noise source on diesels can be advanced fuel injection timing.

I don't know if this issue is possible on a common rail system but maybe worth looking into.

Tappet shim clearances are measured and then the existing shims swapped about. You should only need to buy a few additional shims.
