Hello friends, I have a question about remove the compressor because this is the only way to get to the alternator. Alternator stop working and battery not charging. I see that the compressor is gripped with three bolts, but I don't know how to remove the pipes that are attached to the compressor. I know Freon is very dangerous but I am in very difficult situation. please i need help, i work and i live in italy, at the moment the situation with coronavirus is very bad and i cannot go to a mechanic. please i need this car in this moment. Sorry for my bad English , Thanks

Hi Russs :)

The failure may be the 'carbon brush pack'

This is often a separate component..

So undoing its 2 mounting screws..and replacing the brushes

An example:

https://www.motoelectrical.co.uk/types/regulators-/voltage-regulator-internal-24-volt-a-circuit-wbrushes-abo6025/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-cGF-_ay6AIVWODtCh1ppAizEAQYJSABEgKxxPD_BwE

This may be a much simpler operation :)

Yes, but how to remove air conditioning compressor pipe?

I will remove the pipes from the gpl system and the radiator and everything to have access to the compressor. but how do i remove the aluminum tubes, they are attached to the compressor and are filled with freon. please someone who has done this procedure to explain me. i know that freon is dangerous for the world healthy but in this case i have no choice, I need a car in this moment.

Sorry Russ but the Gas in the compressor and pipework is at an extremely high pressure. disconnecting the pipes is likely to result in damage or injury. Normally a garage would use special equipment to suck the gas out of the air con system.

Can you take the alternator out another way?
What engine do you have, normally the compressor is on the front of the engine and the alternator on the back (on most fiats) if you can get some better pictures we might be able to help more.

Hi , the Vin number is ZFA19900000691561
Fiat Punto Evo
Motor: 1368.00
KW: 057.00
year: 2010 November
Motor number: 350A1000
Carburante: Benzina GPL
This is my alternator model
I try to remove alternator , I removed two bolts from the bottom of the car. but the third bolt is located between the alternator and the compressor. It very difficult position to remove because I don't have car ramp

varesecrazy, you mean changing the brushes without having to remove alternator.

if I only unscrew this three bolts on the air conditioner compressor without removing the aluminum tubes, and then push the compressor up so I will have some space to unscrew the alternator bolt.is there anyone who did it in this way please help me

Your car is a little different to what we see in the uk

GPL

LPG in the uk

Not sold in the FIAT UK models.. :(

So we are unsure of the mechanical layout of the 1.4 punto you have

exactly the same as Fiat Punto 1.4 gasoline. On top compressor is find a gas evaporator and tube. it's not a problem because I downloaded it to clean it. i need to know after removing the bolts from the compressor can it be pushed a little to find that bolt without removing the tubes from the compressor. I

I did ask that you post some better pictures. Every punto I have owned has had the alternator on the back of the engine and the aircon compressor on the front, hence why i'm not really sure of the layout of your engine bay. Also there is the consideration of the pipework for the LPG and the space that affords. Please get some better pictures then we will be better able to offer advice.

for anyone who wants to know it is possible to unscrew the alternator upper bolt without removing the compressor and pipes. yes it is possible to remove the third bolt without removing the compressor, because the tubes of the compressor have soft connections.

those pictures help a lot, If there are nice flexible connections then yes you can detach the pump from the engine and move it to one side, however i can see it would be very difficult to get the alternator out, i'd probably go out the bottom if you can with the alternator. If really struggling for space, i'd maybe consider removing the drive shaft.

I think it will be useful. the next problem is how can i be sure the alternator is not working, before to buy new one alternator. when I driving the battery lamp is constantly on the dashboard . 30 minutes of driving the car completely dies. the steering wheel is very difficult to turn. the car battery is brand new. I see the problem can be from this part Alternator Voltage Regulator .Where can find this part? Battery cables everything is fine

I think the regulator is more likely to OVER charge..

But it is the same procedure to remove the
Regulator : brush assembly

I suspect the brushes have worn out.. ;)

I didn't have much time today and I only removed this third bolt. tomorrow I will download and open the alternator and take pictures here. one more thing, in ebay alternator fits on my car price is 68 euro for new one . there is a difference in the amps, mine is 70A and this alternator in ebey 75A. Is there be problems if I put 75A alternator in my car

It possible to move car for 500 meter without alternator and poly v belt ?
