Hi everyone,

I have a Fiat Punto Evo 1.4 petrol 2010 with an annoying issue I can’t quite figure out. Maybe someone here has experienced something similar.

Problem description:

  • The car has a slow start when cold (long cranking).
  • Once the engine is warm, it starts instantly.
  • While driving, the engine sometimes suddenly stalls.
  • Turning the ignition off and on again allows it to start right away.
  • When idling, the engine runs smoothly (Engine does not stall), even when warm.
I plan to use an OBD2 scanner to read live data and fault codes while driving. Has anyone seen similar symptoms?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

So far, I've experienced lots of people, who cannot specify what/which "1,4" they own.
That gives away your level of knowledge (and how "much" you care about the car, engine etc.)...
That's a first guess: lack of maintenance (especially if it's 8V unit, typically there is stalling issue - valve clearance?).
Or simple failure (one or two sensors like MAP/temperature, crank sensor or power delivery - weak "ground/earth").

It‘s petrol, so this narrows it down from five to only three 1.4 l engines
LPG
Natural power

8 V
multiair
multiair turbo

if it‘s multiair, could be a specific multiair problem (especially if it goes away when the engine is warm)
