ive got a 1.9td tipo sx, whats the best way to make it quicker? i know top end wont be great cuz its a diesel i just want it to get there faster, so far ive got 195/50/16 o.z superturismos and a pipercross filter. i know the bigger wheels dont help, but overall size isnt much different to the old 14's that were on it. help?

Whilst I've yet to give it a go myself, I know that it is quite easy to uprate other diesels which have the same fuel injection pump set up. Essentially, what you need to do is up the boost (by turning the wastegate actuator bar) and then up the fuelling to match. This is done by removing the top cover of the injection pump and doing various adjustments. It's a 10 minute job to change the fuelling, but upping the boost will no doubt be fiddly.

I may have a go and do a photo "how to" article I think.

After this perhaps a move to a charge cooler? You need to be sure your engine is in good nick before you start though.

195/50R16 will be a bit bigger than the standard 14" wheels. They will also be expencive for tyres! 195/50R15 are much much cheaper.

Running it on biodiesel or veggie oil helps make it rev smoother. Removing the exhaust gives you a big block v8 sort of noise. :D

You can turn the screw on the governer to make it go faster, but you risk the engine going bang. I would seek out a diesel expert to set it slightly up. This will improve performance. This of course is if you have already had the injectors ultrasonic cleaned. This alone will improve performance no end. If the engine has done over 50000 miles, they will need doing to get the spray patterns matched and the nozzles unblocked, and recalibrated.

what will the ultra sonic cleaning cost? and how do i uprate the engine to take biofuel or veg oil?
i like the idea of big block v8 noises though (from a diesel) lol

Last time i had it done, cost £50 for 4 injectors. Before and after was like night and day in performance and economy. No3 injector was not injecting hardly at all at first on the machine and no2's pattern was all wrong, but soon they were spraying correctly and at the right rate. Once refitted, the slight lumpy tickover had disappeared and performance was damn excellent!! MPG improved by at least 5 mpg.
You should be able to use bio from the off.

you seem to know a lot about the turbo powered, little beasts

where could i get the injectors done?

Sorry, missed this post.
Look up your local diesel specialist or someone like Lucas service centre or Bosch service centre. They will have the ultra sonic test equipment.
Yes i know about them due to running them on a taxi fleet. You get to know the cars quite well due to the 30000 miles + per year the cars go through. Cars are gone now [they had a few miles on the clock!!], and iam no longer in that business.

i ran a uno no problem with veggie oil.... no mods just a 75:25 mix and she purred, used to clock up around 65miles on 4 litres of rapeseed..... performance was actually better.....:slayer:

Did it smell like a chip van or didn't the rapeseed smell that much?
