Just replaced mine with the ones from shop4parts and have to say what a massive difference, the new ones actually get hot to touch whereas the old ones didn't even get warm.

Did cost £40 though to replace both sides but also got a blind spot extension bit now which is good.

Thank you very much for this. I have an issue with the heating element in the mirror not working. I'm currently shopping for a replacement. The guide works exactly as stated, nothing got broken whatsoever.

EDIT: just bought a KLOKKERHOLM heated mirror at about 25£ (cheapest I could get). Initially searched for Magneti Marelli but other than the dealer that quoted me 80£ for it, I found nothing. The mirror looks the same, feels alright, and heats up so good that it hurts your hand. Let's hope it lasts.

There was also a very cheap ALKAR glass, at about 8£, they make very cheap parts for everything that I thing is questionable quality.

Worked great. Got the ALKAR heated mirror glass, and replaced it without any problems at all.
Thing about ALKAR mirrors are they are a bit tinted and their heating surface is smaller than the OEM part's one.

To remove mirror glass you'll need a flat head screwdriver.

Push the base of the mirror down at the point 'X' in the pic

Then place the Flat head screwdriver behind the mirror glass as the top around the area that the arrow points to in the pic.

Now push the screwdriver away from you to level the mirror glass towards you. (NB, I've not yet managed to brake any mirror glass doing this yet, but it could be possible, so do not proceed if you don't want to take this risk/don't have a replacement).

The glass should then unclip and fall forwards.

The Heater Element & Wiring

Now that your glass has been removed from the door mirror unit you should be greeted by the following.

The two wires attached to the mirror glass are for the heater elements. Carefully remove these. Your mirror glass should now be compleatly detached from the mirror housing.

You can now clean electrical contacts on glass to try and repair the none functioning heater, or replace with a new one.

Re-attaching the mirror is the opposite of removing. Re-attach heater wiring, and then place clip on the back of the glass over the motor housing in the mirror housing and push into place. Then re-possition mirror into its correct driving possition, and hey presto. Job done

The new one works alot better at heating up than the origional but still working unit on the other side of the car. It is my belief that the heater units slowly brakedown before they stop working compleatly, so I'm planning on getting another unit to replace the slightly less effective side.

I will be doing this tomorrow with the trust help of my son, going to take off the glass from my replacement wing mirror and put it into my old one as the motor doesnt work in the replacement one
