how the hell do i remove the track rod??

i had a bit of an encounter with a kerb in the snow and bent my track rod! have the new part but can't seem 2 get the old one off!! my dad managed 2 get the track rod end off but where it connects 2 the steering rack, he can't see how the rest comes off!! Can anyone enlighten us??? much appreciated if you can!! Ashleigh xx

Engine size would help, but in general the rod has a rounded head with no flat spots for a spanner or similar. So the only way is to use a chisel so it cuts in the metal and then hitting on the chisel should loosen it and you can remove it - if you get what I mean. The new one can be tightened using some pliers or such.

The other method is to "find" free place to use pliers for the removal also - but the place is too small.
