Spyware removal is one of the things I help with on a tech forum adn as most of the sneeky buggers come in alsorts of guises from simple browser hijacks, dialers, malware cookies to BHO's hijacked hosts files etc etc you generally need a few programs to remove them all as already posted Ad-Aware is a great one as is SpySweeper but what you also may need if those two havnt caught it all is apps like
CWShedder http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
removes some browser search hijacks
Hijackthis http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
checks all running apps plus what BHO's and other browser addons are running... needs manual removal plus you really need to know what you are looking for when removing with this app.
plsu when you have removed all spyware or you have none already I would advice you get this app SpywareBlaster as it helps stop any spyware, Dialers etc etc from being installed in the first place ... it takes no cpu time or resources http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
these dont take the place of Anti Virus to catch trojans and alike but they all help in spyware removal.. but remember the arses that produce spyware are always changing the stuff so keep these apps updated.
