I have lots and lots of it on my computer, my virus checker refuses to get rid, i have tried downloading some spyware remover software but they all want you to buy the product at the end.

Does anyone know where I could get free software from to remove this, cause its really annoying with all the pop ups and im fed up of being offered russian brides[:(!]

cheers

first of all download google toolbar http://toolbar.google.com/ which blocks all pop ups then download this...http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet run a smart system scan, should delete all adware
Let me know if the adaware program solves the problem.

Spyware can be a bitch to get rid of, and the normal spyware removers (Spybot S&D, Adaware) won't get rid of hijackers/Browser help objects. Theres a free proggy for removing BHO's at http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/ and the proggy is called Shredder

Spyware info is also available at www.doxdesk.com/parasite and http://www.pestpatrol.com/pestinfo/

I hate spyware as it accounts for around 60% of my workload as I work for an ISP.

Ad-aware 6.0 is what I use. It clears most spyware.

Also a good software firewall (e.g. ZoneAlarm) can help as it stops spyware from transmitting to the 'Net!

I feel the only way forward here is a format of the offening HDD,

Spybot and Adaware are good programs but they seem unable to get rid of all the offending articles, many items of spyware make changes to your registry and simply launch every time u switch on, thus the need for a format! [xx(]

I would also recommend:

Norton Anti Virus
XP firewall AND zonealarm
Adaware

Norton: I know it is seen as the "popular and expensive" virus checker but having tried others such as AVG, Norton is in a different league and am even going to update my subscription which is something I wouldn't usually do!

Zonealarm - excellent and free firewall

Adaware: The industry standard for removing errors but apparently is lacking updates at the moment.

formatting is a bit drastic. go to www.cybertechhelp.com download hijack this, it will create a log of every thing that is running on your pc, then go back to that site post the log on the forum in the cyber safty forum (must post there or get told off)
then some realy clever chap will look at it and post back very good details of how to get rid of all the bad stuff by editing your registry ect. ive got rid of some right pain browser hijackers with there help.

adware 6.0 has done the trick but there are still some in my computer but the google tool bar has put a stop to that.

i keep getting www.123-found.com as my homepage but that doesnt really bother me cause at least the pop ups have gone, my firewall keeps telling me that i am having ports attacks, but i always trace them back to my ISP which is pipex, really strange

I agree that adaware and spybot are two good things to go for, amazing what they pick up on! I use Opera which is told not to allow popups unless specifically requested and is more hack-resistant than IE (plus no-one bothers writing things to hack it), which is handy if you're an advanced user and want something more. Or Mozilla has similar options browserwise (it's based on Netscape if you've used this in the past). On top of this I agree that Norton is great and if you can't afford it then consider *ahem* free sources for 2003 (although not for 2004 which requires activation).

ive got access to whatever software that is made within reason, so getting it would not be a problem.

I have used norton in the past but its warnings really do my head in so i end up turning it off or just excepting everything, which sort of makes it useless.

I have used Mozilla before, I never really thought about changing my browser but if I can have added tools then I will look into it, thanks people

Opera is the best one if you ant to play with it IMO, once you get used to it's VERY customisable (although this makes it hard to get used to - took me 2 years to get it the way i wanted it now it's perfect). Only downside is you will need to download Java to use it properly if you've been using IE up until now (although if you have Mozilla chances are you will have downloaded Java to use with this?).
