Cheers guys well it won't come off with pure washing so next stage is bug and tar remover this weekend with a lot of elbow grease.
If I don't succeed with this I may try something a bit stronger but I don't know much on this front and I'm not sure if I have the guts to start using cutting compunds myself.
Whats the deal with G10? Will it be hard to use properly and am I likely to do damage?

hey a13wwy,
dont use the tar & glue remover with to much effort, that stuff does the job for you. i think that will fix your problem!
dont be worried to use a product like g10 because your using it by hand & not a polishing machine, you wont do any damage. use a white mutton cloth or micro fibre cloth put some water on cloth (water just dilutes the g10 down abit, but you can use it dry without the aid of the water) then some g10 on cloth then rub onto the panel forwards & backwards or in a circular motion, start of gently then abit more pressure if you need to, keep applying g10 (& water if your using it) as you go along the panel. by then the speckles should be disappearing, when you have all the speckles removed use a clean dry white mutton cloth or micro fibre cloth to buff it up & the shine comes back as good as new! then put a wax or polish type product on to protect it for the future. let us know how you get on, good luck :).
