When my car was undersealed a few years after it was bought, the garage has pulled off what seems like a thin metal covering over a hole about 4cm diameter just rear of the front suspension spring. The patch might have been glued in place. The hole is an opening in the chassis that is not obviously otherwise open for inspection? The hole is in front of you as you look at the wheel and then rear and upwards just above the top screw holding the liner.

I have covered the holes up and the wheels are back on and now I am thinking I should have cleaned it out before resealing since the plastic liner/guard does not properly cover that hole..

Does anybody know how those holes drain and where they lead to?

Incidently there is another hole that is directly behind the suspension spring that leads to the engine bay. I am pretty sure the chassis there is not a box section and it is not an access to the inside of the chassis. Was that hole blocked when the car was new? Same holes on both sides of the car for the two different holes.

A photo of the holes.

The larger hole is on the right, about 3cm in diameter.

I am wondering if the chassis is full of wet corrosive crud.
