Hi all

I've just joined the forum for a bit of advice on a tale of woe with our Fiat Multipla wheelchair conversion petrol engine from 2002.

Initially diagnostic equipment showed no fault and on the second failure showed a fault that COULD be related to the crank sensor.

It has conked out a couple of times in particularly hot weather - it will restart if left for several hours - and we have had our local mechanic out several times who has:

- checked spark plugs as all OK
- replaced crank sensor
- taken off petrol tank and pump and checked all OK
- sent ECU off for testing specifying it should be tested at high temperature and it came back OK

Hoping someone out there has a suggestion as to what the fault might be as we are running out of options!

Many thanks

Crank sensor would be where I'd start, and you've already done that. What about the cam sensor? Failure of either of these sensors can give similar symptoms - engine dies when fully warmed up or hot, but behaves normally when it's been allowed to cool down - which is what you're experiencing.

I'm not sure how difficult it is to get at the cam sensor on the petrol engine. If it's anything like the diesel, it'll be quite a bit more work than is the case for the crank sensor.
