Hi all, my multi (1.6 petrol)2001 has an annoying habit of high engine revs. On start up cold it idles at about 2000 rpm then settles a bit to about 1500 rpm, after that it either settles to a nice 5/600 rpm or goes crazy up to 2500 rpm, blipping the throttle doesn't help, but sometimes stopping the engine and restarting it will settle it.
I read about cleaning the white connectors but think that only applies to diesels. The throttle cable seems fine and lubricated.
Any pointers please to where I should look first. Many thanks

Could well be your throttle position sensor. I do not know the 1.6 multipla but have worked on many a petrol and generally these are on the throttle body where your throttle cable connects. It is a variable resistor and the contacts can get dirty. Otherwise your MAF could be sending a false signal to the ECU but I would start with the TPS.
