HID Light kit question

HID Light kit question

Hi all, firstly I hope this is an ok place to post this thread, if not please move.

Now I'm all for doing stuff legally so thought I'd see what everyone's views are on the subject knowing there are some people that probably know the answer to this.

Now fitting a aftermarket HID kit to a car is illegal if certain thing's are not done. What are these things? Is it just a headlamp washing kit needing fitting

I'm possibly thinking of getting a HID kit for the Panda's as I'm soon to have a proper Fiat headlamps washing kit fitted to the Panda, and was wondering if this then makes fitting one of these kits legal?

I'm probably compleatly wrong, hence why I've come on here first to check

Many thanks. Jon.

Jon,

Just a suggestion, is it worth upgrading your headlamp wiring and using Osram Nightbreaker bulbs ?

I cannot speak about the wiring on the early Pandas, but having experienced the joys (yeah right) of Toyota 2nd gen headlamps I know that replacing the lousy wire (use the original wiring to triggers relays for the new wiring) to the bulbs can make one hell of a difference (y).

Thanks for all the advise.

Trev, I've upgraded from 45/50 watt standard Panda bulbs to 55/60 watt bulbs and the improvement was amazing when I done it. Also the grille helps when driving along country roads with the main beam on.

Can I ask why HID's will dazzle people where as normal halogens don't with my type of lense? I mean the glass on the front is what dirrect's the light with my lenses.

But anyway, I've seen these and wondered if they might be any good?; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....m=260276870955&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016

Jon.

With HIDs (6000k bulb) they give out the equivalent light of a 100w bulb, but only draws 35w. 100w bulbs are illegal beause they are too bright, and usually only used for racing/rallying.

All HID compatible cars use the polyelliptical lenses to direct the light down, rather than straight out.

This is more noticable with big 4x4's, as the light is directed straight into lower cars.

yeah basteds, why 4x4 with blinding lights not illegal,

*spell checker said you got noticeable wrong

I had some chav in a Fiesta with headlamps and fogs on behind me this evening. Really blinding and dazzling. I flashed my rear fog incase he didn't know (you can tell these Chav's do thought) and he over took like a mainiac, had a car full, so I just left my light's a they were for a little while to get the point accross. 240Watt of power :D

retaliation is what chavs are after, best bet is to simply leave them alone

I Have fitted 6000k hid lights in my mk2 punto, they look great and cause of the pollys i dont blind anyone, i often have ppl ask where i got them, and even the coppers like em in my area, i think 10.000k is a bit too much tbh... 6000k just look right,

and as for the police, they have a 'Y' reg vectra that patrols at night and that has had an after market upgrade...
