hi i am a newbie an am looking at buying a fiat multipla 54 reg around 56000.miles iv asked quite a few people about this car and every one is telling me to run a mile from buying a fiat------ full stop ,but i think it may be the car for me ,what can i look for as a mere woman who knows not alot about cars , thank you in anticipation ,

Considering the fact that there is nothing else even comparable to a Multipla then you'll have a tough time finding something better (show me another car with 6 full size seats and a proper sized boot with smaller dimensions than an Espace!). Fiat have a bad reputation after dodgy electrics and poor quality workmanship in the 80's, but so did British Leyland and a lot of their cars are still on the road.

Ideally, look out for the usual things when buying a used car - service history, MOT history, everything electrical works and no obvious signs of rust. As said though, post in the Multipla section, there might even be a buyers guide in there.

get the diesel and you should get many cheap reliable miles out of it.

Many of those folks who say to avoid Fiats will happily let you buy a Vauxhall/GM. They forget that many European GM cars share mechanical systems with Fiat or even take the complete car (for example Corsa is a Punto).
