Might if it's an early Landrover:
4 inches of play in the steering box when new. (in 1975, anyway)
As an aside, years ago I had to pass a companies own driving test in one of their Landrovers (having already passed my real test years before) before they would let me drive one
The one the transport manager used for this was a beast neither they nor Solihull could sort out: if you could keep it on the left hand side of the road you passed!
Going along a straight section of road it would slowly start go off course, unless there were bumps or ridges in the road which put in a random factor, you would start to turn the wheel a bit - no response - a bit more - no response - a bit more - now suddenly going in the opposite direction [:0]
It used to zig-zag down the road.
The other ones they had were a
bit better, but the driving action shown above was quite close to what was needed for all of them
