hi,
this mite sound stupid but where is the fan belt on a punto 1.2 16v is that the one it goes around the alternator coz i need to put washing up liquid on it yo stop it sceaming at me.mick

there are 2 belts on the sporting. 1 for the power steering (pump on front of engine, belt is the outer of the 2) and the alternator (alternator on the rear of the engine. drive belt is the inner of the 2).

TBH, i would just replace the both. it is not that hard to do. Fairy liquid would lubricate it. making it quiet and slip a lot more. it would also break down the rubber.

think the belts are only £10 each from halfords. can you change them yourself?

piece of **** (did it on saturday lol). slacken all 3 bolts of the power steering pump, swivel it towards the engine, remove belt guard (plastic, stops you mashing your hand while the engine is running). Belt then slips off

repeat for alternator (but this has no guard).

Although i did this on a car with not bodywork so you will need to remove the drivers side front wheel and wheel arch liner.
