Help with remote central locking?

my remote central locking doesnt work, so Went to Fiat dealer and they said to get it working you need a piece of paper with a code on, that came with the keys when the car was new? that hardly any one keeps. and to get it working that i would need a new lcoking system. Is that right? any help would be great. got a mk1 1.8HLX

im afraid i cant help you fix it,

but i have a Hlx, and the central locking is dodgy,

some times it works then it doesnt, then it works for ages, then its stops working for a bit. it annoying.

does yours not work at all?

no nothing. i know there battery in the key because the light comes on. hopefully there's some1 on here know knows a bit more!

If you ever find out it has something to do with the big yellow block of a relay switch give me a shout as i have a spare brand new one in the lock-up.
I think i paid FIAT £30 for it so it might be worth a try.

@marko - the relay is whan you have aftermarket RCL, the one Rip has is standard.
@Rip-the codes are on a plastic, not paper card and its blue the size of a credit card. If you dont have it, hm, think there isnt much to do.

Find the paper label on the card - there should be one on that has a number on, take it to a Meta system repair and let them do the work (http://www.metasystem.co.uk/) you cant do much more. Or buy a relay that is RCL, but you will get a fob and no flashing repeaters
