Hey ppl, hope valentines is going well for you!

Basically, I tried to turn on my PC this morning and it wasnt having any of it. All it does is power up but not go past the POST bit (i.e beeping) It just stays on with the HD light on constantly?
I've tried reseting the CMOS but with no joy, also had a look around for loose connections and everything seems fine.....
It was working yesterday :(

Anybody got any ideas?

HDD Crash sounds like. You've not been playing around with the cables have you, if you put the IDE cable in the wrong way around, the HDD light will stay on, and it won't boot.

have you got the Motherboard Manual. Are there any audiable alarms from the computer (beeps, siren type noises)?

Nah no beeps at all....just the constant loading HD light and flashing power LED?

Checked manual but nothing in there about the problem.....

Its a MSI K8 Neo

isnt the flashing power light for standby mode?
try holding the reset button and then powering on. that sometimes helps.
also you could check the CMOS clear jumper is set correctly - this will stop it from passing POST.

These are symptoms of cables being put on the wrong way round and seeing as you said it just died and you never touched it then it could possibly be dead HDisk. Try your Hdisk in another machine and a working Hdisk in your broken machine.

If not then you may well have a Faulty MoBo or Processor.

What you should do now is unplug everything but the:

Processor
Power Supply
RAM

Turn on the computer and see if it beeps at you, at this point any amount of beeps is a good thing, I think its either 2 or 8 beeps for no monitor or one long beep

Eitherway after you've tried that, plug in your monitor and see what you get. If you get no HDisk detected/No System Disk/No OS etc then your comp works and something else is faulty. Test one component at a time by plugging in in one component at a time.

NEVER REMOVE OR CONNECT COMPONENTS WHILE THE MACHINE IS RUNNING!

Furthermore, try disconnecting everything and removing the motherboard It might be that the MoBo had moved a bit and the screws that hold it down are causing a joined circuit of some sort which may be interfering with the data buses.

Make sure the Mobo is properly lined up and securly tightened then try again.
