I have a tape player in my stilo at the minute. I went to my local fiat dealership (exeter) they said that i could not put a stilo cd player into my car, because it has a factory fitted tape player. He said something about the computer and codes. Is this true?

No - just get one off eBay, but make sure it has the code card with it! Without it, it would be useless. It works like any other car radio - you install and then enter the code then prompted, this then programmes the body computer. The CD player goes straight in the hole that the tape player leaves and all the wiring is the same, so installation is not a problem! There is a guide on this forum somewhere on changing the headunit :)

When you say "code card", is it going to be a piece of cardboard with the code written on it, or some kind of card which slots in to the CD player to make it work? I used to have an Alfa 33 with a factory fit Blaupunkt stereo which had the latter type of card which had to be inserted in to a slot, like a Sky Viewing card on a digibox.

If it's just a written code on a bit of card, and I buy a CD player without one, it looks to me from other threads that it's easy to get hold of a working code. Right? I ask as a scrapyard has offered me a CD player but said in his email "no code".
