thanks for all the help guys ... ill pop into halfords with the headunit tomorra and see what they say.. hopefully theyve got the right plug/can order it for me if not ill nab something off ebay
Im also looking for a new head unit! Ive the a 2001 ELX 8v Punto that has 4x40w's and a 100w sub built into the boot...although the head unit is the basic Blaupunkt one, without sub out....stupid or what! :bang:
Ive been looking at this unit, but Im not sure if the sub will connect to this unit without any adapters etc
What do I need to be looking for in head units to ensure the sub in my boot will connect?
the fiat sub does not run of a subout pin. you need no special connectors for it. the fiatsub takes its feed from the normal rear left right channels that go into to the sub first it then takes out the signals it needs ( dont know teh techincal way to say it ) and then wires run to the other rear speakers.
looks a nice head unit you have choose i have a blaupkunkt mp3 player myslef the mp53 daytona last years model. this will plug straight into to the exisiting wiring. at the back there will be 2 large wire blocks and 2 small colored ones. DONT plug the small colored ones into your new blaupunkt stereo you will get horrendous pulsing noises took me 3 days to figure it was caused by the colored wire blocks. the coloured wire blocks are only for use on the factory fit stereo so the car computer can check you have put in the security code.
when i done mine i wanted the stereo to turn off with the ignition if you want this then you may have to cut and move a couple of wires like i did. if you need to do this post a message and can tell you wich ones to move as i woudl expect the blaupunkt wiring to be same as my daytona mp53 model
fiat speakers sound so much better with new headunit
Ahh, so I dont even really need a unit with a dedicated sub out! Thanks for that info fishdude, Ive been searching the net for this since I got the car on Thursday and havent been able to find out until now
Just out of interest, did your punto come as standard with the subwoofer connected up? as mine has the 'standard' (first model in the car audio book) head unit fitted and no sound is coming from the back speakers and sub, only the two front speakers at the moment Sooner I get my new headunit the better!!!
The extra rear speakers and sub are there from factory install - as far as I can see all the wiring is there and in the plastic moulding the sub is there, the rear speakers are also there too (not just grills).
I cant understand why they'ved fitted the basic headunit into a car thats setup for the advanced sound.
I might take the car back to the garage and ask them to get the rear speakers and sub working, they'll probably tell me to bugger off but its worth a try
there were 2 levels of tape player you could get low and high spec the low one came with front speakers only soo i assume it only has front speaker outs.
im wondering, does the sub draw its bass from /share the rear speakers? if so that could explain why there is no sound from my sub at the moment. I think I'll go ahead and get the head unit ive been looking at and hope for the best
