Bought a 03 Doblo in March, has been fine until now when the cold weather begins. Starts OK but the engine sign stays on and it chokes along with smoke trailing behind; if I have to stop or change gear, it goes really slow; I switch it off after 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how cold the weather is, then start again, the engine sign will usually go off by then and it all goes well for the rest of the day; if the sign is still on, I'll have to choke along a bit longer. What's the problem?

Probably a sensor, coolant or inlet air temp, if the EML is on there will be an error code logged in the ECU.

Thanks Ffoxy. Done a diagnostic test in a local garage but found no faults. Do I have to take it to a Fiat specialist?

You can but its expensive, buy or borrow an EOBD2 Diagnostic reader, around £35 from Gendan & there are others just as good.
