Bit of a problem and wondering if anyone can help!
Was driving to my gfs last night and drove along the usual country road past my work when all of a sudden i drove into a massive puddle in the road which was more like a lake! water came all up my bonnet and over my car, carried on driveing (was still running as normal) got to my gfs and parked up....
Started the bugger up this morning and it sounds like a tank! the engine was rattleing around like mad and also had loss of power :( like this i had to drive back to mine which is about 10 miles. I then decided to pop into my local garage and see if they know what the hell is up with it, had a quick look and said water has got into my engine, he also said its only running on 2 cylinders :( after this i tried to start the car up to move it in to the garage but the damn thing wouldent start and it was now then smokeing from my airfilter!
So ive now left it with him to have a look at it :(

Just wondering if any one else could please tell me any more possible things that could be up with it

Its a bravo 1.4 sx

re

I suspect its sucked in a load of water,

i think its probably pretty fooked! as probably pushed water in with all the oil etc now,

re

I'd think it depends on how much water it sucked in and how far you have driven it not runnig right!

Submersible Brava

To determine whether it's electrical or water has definately been ingested you could check under the filler cap for the same signs you get with a gubbed head gasket. And maybe look at the air filter.....if it's wet then the car is more likely to have sucked something in.

I think if it had actually sucked large amounts of water in you would have known about it straight away. But what I think isn't that relevant, as I've never had amphibious adventures with my car.

Remove and dry all leads, and wiring you can, WD40 everything, try starting the thing again.

Smoke/steam from the air filter does sound a bit odd though!

Thanks for your replies :)
Its a pipecross airfilter that the smoke was coming out of. The bloke at the garage seems to think that the flter has sucked in the water. I drove about 10 miles this morning with it being like that...which i think i shouldent have! its now round the corner at the garage and wont start so were towing it back to mine later and having my dads mate..a mobile meachanic come and look at it tommorow, but ive got a gut feeling that its buggered :( and might have to go into the hgt fund to fix it. Im glad were going in my gfs car to nequay on sat and not mine

Just to let ya know..car seems to be fixed now and running even better then ever for some reason! lol
Turned out to be all my pots were full with water and not what the bloke at the garage was telling me! so now still on course to save up and get my hgt :)

When you say pots i presume your meaning cylinders, how did you fix it? For future ref.

My old 1.4 did exactly the same, my mechanic jet-hosed the engine and it ingested water.

I took the spark plugs out and stuffed kitchen roll down the spark plug holes, and the kitchen roll drew most of the water out of the engine, then I replaced the HT leads and just kept running the engine so the remaining water just dried up, it was fine ever since and it still runs sweet to this day!

Thats exactely what me and my dad did the damn thing was full of water! after we put everything back it evantually started but still sounded slightly rough so we went for a 30 min
blast but it was still back fireing due to somewere being damp still. When we got back we left it over night until this mornin. Started it up again and everything is back to normal it feels even better to drive :)
