Technical Help Needed.

Hi. I'm new to this forum (Hi everyone) And i'm also new to driving Fiats.

I own a Marea Weekend Diesel Estate and seem to have a few niggly problems.

First of all the clutch is spongy. Sometimes i go to press the clutch and it goes to the floor. Other times the "biting point" is high, middle push or about an inch from the floor. I took it into a garage and they said it was Hydraulic and couldn't help me.
Does this mean it's low on fluid or something?? (Sorry guys, i'm a bit blonde when it comes to cars lol)

Secondly. And this has only happened recently. Whenever i pull away in first gear the Handbrake light flashes. (!) Any idea why this is??

Other than this the car is great to drive. She is doing me proud in moving boxes up and down the M11 as i'm in the process of moving house. I've owned Ford and Vauxhall Estates and i swear the Fiat has more space in the back than any other car i've owned.

sounds like the leaking slave cylinder problem, which is very common. check to see if it is leaking, it is on top of the gearbox, under the battery. a new one costs £30 or less and is easy to fit.

another red card for a garage. oh dear.. what the hell is wrong with garages that they cant fix a simple problem ?

The handbrake light switch is under the gaiter around the lever inside the cabin. I would guess that the torque reaction rod has got rather worn bushes and is allowing the engine to move and close the switch as you pull away. Options are ignore it, have the bushes checked and replaced if needed or remove the gaiter and check out if anything has come adrift in there.

But it seemed to be just a simple case of low fluid.

I took it to yet another garage. This time near the village i was moving from and he couldnt even get the cap off where the fluid goes. Telling me to go back the next day and he'll attack with with some tools. And for some reason, having to take the entire top off the engine!!!. :bang:

I managed to drive her to the new home (laden with boxes) Parked her up and carried on moving house with a van.

The following morning i popped the bonnet and hey presto the filler cap opened with a bit of brute force (and ignorance lol). Put clutch fluid in and away she goes!!

The red light doesn't stay on or flash. And the biting point is where is should be.

Maybe i should get a job in a garage after all LMAO.

What fluid do I use and where does it go, the instruction manual for my Marea is in Italian?

dot4 brake fluid, it goes in the brake fluid reservoir. the brakes and clutch share the same fluid.
