hi there guys can any 1 help me with tuning my 1.1 race engine for my fiat 1.1 class 4 autograss car .the engine is in standard form at mo so need to make it really go(y)

Class 4 is a modified class, with engine capacities allowed up to 1130cc. Any engine modification is allowed, except turbo and super charging. This is a class not for the shallow of pocket; engines are extensively modified to bring them to a competitive level, as a specific of the rules is that the original engine and position are retained. Examples of cars in this class are Minis, Hillman Imps, Citroen Saxos and Peugoet 106s.

REbore, high compression, fully lighteneded and balanced everything, cams, valve train, crank, flywheel, valves, buckets., and on and on and on.

Race cams, port, polish.

Throttle bodoies (high revving)

Custom engine managment.

Nitrosoxide injection

Av Gas if allowed.

etc.

SO much you could do, but what is your budget?

A class 4 :D

OK to start with there is stacks of info that you can get by searching

The FIAT fire engine has lots of derivatives and most parts are interchangable so if you stay with 8V then cam wise anything 1108 or 1242 will fit and there are lots of uprated or custom alternatives out there but a hibryd 16v is possible. also fuelling there are MPI options that use std inlet manifolds if you want ITB then it will have to be custom

exhaust there are janspeed 4-1, or CSC, Superspint 4-2-1 out there off the shelf but lots of stuff is or has been discontinued so custom would be best bet if you are doing a screamer

Transmissions basically anything Punto FIRE will fit, Quaife are doing a custom LSD for a few of us at the min and there are one or two people that have bought a spare that might part with one, if not Bacci are about the only other option but mega bucks as are there custom gearbag internal

How much money do you have??

Im building a engine up as we speak.
You could easily spend over a grand on the head alone

yeh funds are a bit limited but would hope to be able to cut costs by doing most of the work myself(y)

First and foremost make sure the bottom end is square and that the pistons fit well.

No point in spending hours on the head, if the bottom end is toast.

Balanced, obviously, to get big power from these engines needs lots of revs. I guess you spend a lot of time turning left, so some sump baffle work would be sensible, seeing as the well is on the 'wrong' side.

The head will respond well to treatment and the Cr can be raised to suit whatever fuel you can use.

Cam is either expensive import or regrind, your call depending on budget. Accurate setting up will help. I think that a race cam is going to be the import variety, I don't think they can get enough extra lift from a regrind.

Cheers

You have access to machines?? a lathe and a milling machine?? if so then you can lighten the flywheel, skim the head and make some ITB's, maybe make a vernier pulley aswell.

You dont see many veniers second hand, new there £100
Decent cam is £300+, ive yet to order mine so dont know the exact cost

:yeahthat: Always better to make/change your own stuff in my opinion.
your bound to know someone who works in an matchin shop... or know someone who knows someone

it depends what sort of cam you want to put ion, a fast road cam will set you bacxk about £270 and a fast track will probs set you back about £370.
these prices are for new, which i'm guessing is what you would buy.

Well hes building a race engine, so he'd be wanting a race cam.

€374 from C&B, then theres the exchange rate and delivery from italy.

Dont know anybody else that has off the shelf cams,so its either C&B or a custom jobby machined from a blank
