Hi
I own a 54 plate Scudo 1.9d , I just had the glow plugs changed and 2 miles after I set off the engine blew all its oil and seized!

The mechanic is denying responsibility, I visited the site where it was repaired and the ground is covered in oil, so it happened where it was worked on!

Can anyone shed any light as to where he went wrong!

He taped together a rubber pipe (oil breather) and snapped another plastic one which he melted back together.

Please can someone give me some technical info to question the mechanic!
Thanks ?

Replacing glow plugs would not usually involve touching anything to do with the oil system. So this could be coincidence.

We'd need to know exactly where the oil escaped from, to understand whether this is something that might be disturbed during the glow plug change, or is nearby and vulnerable to clumsiness. The fact he has repaired pipes is suspicious, as this suggests he broke stuff, but the breather system will not eject large quantities of oil. Loss of all the oil would need an oil supply pipe to be broken, perhaps the feed to the turbo.

More details please. Pics would be useful. You need to post 5 times before you can post pics, so replay to this 4 times with small details each time, then add the pics.

I'll get some pics but I'm getting an independent inspection done so I don't want to wipe any oil off yet

I'm not sure if it's French or Italian, I'll find the engine code it's a Fiat Scudo YS54 HVT

Thank you for your replies!

I seriously doubt it's coincidence as I checked the oil and water the day before, I booked him through clic mechanic and it was supposed to take an hour but it took 2 and a half, it was very dark for the last hour and also very cold and not ideal working conditions.
I have checked (and photo'd) my parking space and there is no oil, there was also no oil on the route going into the car park.
The only oil was where it was worked on and the path I took out of the car park, hopefully this inspection will prove it

You are doing the right thing in getting it looked at. Ideally you should use a recognised expert witness. They will cost more initally but you can clam that from the mechanic. The only problem I can see is if the mechanic is a bit "fly by night" you ma not get any money from him even if took it to small claims court and won. If they have their own workshop and equipment you may stand a chance. On the technical side did you get an oil pressure warning light? If so how long before the engine siezed? A blocked breather can cause oil starvation, but I'b expect it to take longer than two miles.
