Help in deciding to buy a bravo

I just viewed a Fiat Bravo HGT on a 99 t plate, nothing seems to be wrong with it until i asked if he had the red key present with him, which he didn't, only blue keys. now i have searched in and out of the forum to see what the red key exactly does and found that it is only needed to program new keys(correct me if im wrong).

should i be put of on not buying the car?

It only becomes a problem if you need it. I never ever needed mine with ownership of 2 bravs for over 6 years.
However, sods law n all that........
With the Bravs being relatively cheap nowadays it may be a nice haggling point to knock a few more pennies off the asking price.

I offered him £1000.
Its yellow colour, leated seats and all the stantard stuff. it is only the red key that is concering me but as long i have the blue and i never loose it, it'll be ok, right?

As long as you keep a working key you should be OK. If there is only one blue it may be worth trying to get it cloned as a spare (I believe Timpsons can do it)
As for the HGT - just make sure the usual have been done (cambelt, water pump and tensioners etc etc etc)

To be honest with the number of Bravo's around you can afford to be picky.

I would walk away if it only has one blue key. As the original blue key works the alarm and rcl, the timpson clone will only start it and manually open the doors however the alarm will not work.

Its generally not an issue tbh. Theres probably only 1% of owners have ever needed it. What it comes down to is the car itself. If its in VGC, with good service history, everything works, and its all shiny then its worth going for. If a missing red key is on top of a few other ngles, then as Joske said, hey are chea enough that you can afford to be picky and look elsewhere. My 1.8 had a red key, but my 1.4 before that, did not.

by all means use it to knock the price down

not sure how much it is when you loose all the keys (sure someone on here will know) and then present him with that figure and ask for some off

but i would advise you to go to timpsons or some other place that will be able to clone the key after you get it.

as for the price it'll save you if you do loose your key it's more than worth it

think i got 2 new keys cut for my old brav and think it was about 40 quid..
