So, how come the battery can cause problems? Is it to do with voltage fluctuations or something. I'd always thought that if it has enough juice to start the car it's doing it's job, end of.
I'm genuinely intrigued.

Pretty much explains it. My battery is 6 years old now and would still start the car, but would occasionally throw up airbag/power steering and the flashing odometer error/s.

Thanks for your help.
If I did put a new battery on it would I then need to have the proxy alignment done? Or, is it just a matter of sticking a new battery on and job done (if indeed it is the current battery at fault).
Ta.

I removed the positive battery cables and it stopped and my bluetooth started working again.

Yes, my odometer flashed the other week, but a temporary battery disconnect has fixed it. It did occur to me that it could be the first indication of the hatchback loom problem, but I haven't checked yet. Certainly worth a thorough examination.
Replacing the battery is a relatively low cost thing to try - if it's the original it will be around the end of its life anyway, so even if that doesn't fix the fault it won't really be money wasted, and it should be a simple d.i.y. job.

I agree with what you say. Winter's around the corner and if you have a slightly dodgy battery then it may well let you down the next few months (regardless of whether we have a Daily Express "Armageddon" style winter or not!:D)

My 08 does the same thing (as does my Mum's 2012). Its caused by a sync error between a couple of systems. Generally the best way to stop it occurring is when you start the engine, turn the key to MAR (first stop) wait for the warning lights (except low oil pressure and a couple) to go out then start it.
