I had a shock on the way home from work today. The Odometer wasn't flashing 😲

I did play around with MES on it over the weekend (taking a break from my other project), and successfully changed the layout to '00' which really looks like the analogue layout but with a really big font for the actual speed value. The spend ages trying to get MES to change the km to MPH (byte 42) & consumption to MPG (byte 49), but it kept changing back, I later found it could only be done manually on the speedo buttons 😖, how weird is that.

Again, I'm not sure if this is a function of being in '00' mode, but I'll try that another time, as I've only just though about it being a possibility. I thought I'd leave it in that mode for a while to get a feel for it (and because I can).

Also I tried increasing the max bytes to 250, which I read somewhere the latest vehicles have. It wasn't having any of it, and would only accept 249. After which I put it back to 193.

I also reset the 'replacement integent Alternator' setting whilst in MES, but it's still not charging, least not yet.

You wouldnt happen to know if one off the bytes turns the daylights on/off function via the menu buttons on and off would you? ages ago i did a proxy alignment and after that the on/off setting had disappeared from the menu!( mind you would have no idea how to get it back even if it was possible!)

Do you have a copy of MES?

I don't believe that..its so simple.

When you're in the window that gives you proxi alignment options, just hit Control-Alt-c, and the byte window opens. You can look or change. The only rules you need to be aware of, is that the numbers are hex (i.e in that they range from 0 to F), and must be in groups of two digits with a space in between each group. The byte number is indicated at the bottom of the window.

You may be able to look at it in simulation mode? if you're at all curious.

I will try simulation tonight! how do i know/find out which one(s)is wrong and change it!.
By which i mean how do i know which one of the 85 bytes is the one i need to change? what its original value is/was and what do i change it back to?

You don't HAVE to change anything, and I wouldn't advise changing any unless you are sure you know what you are doing.

Finding out which ones to change and what they do, seems to be a very closely guarded secret.

I have ordered a ODB2 plug prewired, and chatGPT recommended a Salea Logic Analyser (which I just happen to own) to do the byte sniffing, so when I get a moment, I'll have a play with it.

Ok thanks for that! seems that you need presidential level clearance to restore a function that the great C P U in the sky has decided to take away! leaning more towards getting back into a Triumph Herald every day with all these Bl**dy unnecessary over complex electronics!.
And yet Microsoft, apple et all seem determined to press on with A.I. we are all doomed!!!:oops:(n)
