Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

Had a little bump a month or so ago, managed to get hold of a insurance approved HLX front bumper. Took it to the garage down the road and they wanted £130 to spray and fit.Bargain.......or so i thought. I got the car back and the finish was poor and there was a number of patches with dust and crap in it. I then noticed that there was a bubble on the o/s front. I took it back last wednesday and have just picked it up on my lunch break. The job is just as bad, there are little scratches on the bonnet(that were'nt there originally) and a patch of cracked paint on the bumper, i just want my money back and to take it somwhere else. WHAT SHOULD I DO????, he said he will do it again but is it worth it?

to be honest, if your like me (skint!) let him do it again if its not costing you. its his mistake make him sort it. tell him your not happy with the work he's done and if its not right this time you will take it elsewhere and want a refund.
If its an insurance job, let them know your being messed around, see if they can do anything for you.

Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

I really want to get it sorted, but i dont think this guy is going to do a very good job. its a specialist VW/Audi garage ( independent) and is supposed to have a good rep. I just want this sorted, in the mean time i have to borrow cars from work to get about and i cant keep asking to do that. Plus i have to wait over a week to get it back in.

Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

you said that this is an insurance job...

about 2 years ago my bravo was broken into, it went to a garage (approved by my insurance company) and it was repaired - they did a good job but put a large deep scratch on my boot - so we refused to accept it so it stayed there over the weekend.

over that weekend their compound was broken into and guess what - my car was broken into again...

they didn't tell us about this until the thursday - so we made them put a new window in and we took the car to a garage that we knew would be good. we told the insurance company, they said it was ok and they started plans to get some sort of compensation - the chances were slim, but we got the excess for the claim paid and a small damages fee, so...

i'd advise you to tell your insurance company, and take it to a garage that you know is good (say, a friend or family member has experience of a garage)

let us know mate and good luck, sorry for the long explanation, but just wanted you to get an idea of my circumstances!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

sorry but £130 is not a bargin for fitting and spraying a front bumper, £100 is a bargin i don't know anywhere that charges that much round here i get all my spraying at trade discount £80 per panel with my body shop they are very good only place i would trust. but when it seems that cars go through the insurance to get sprayed they take there time, my punto went in and didn't come out for 2months it stayed in the same parking space and didn't move.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

Cheers for that, the problem is it was not an insurance job ( like i can afford a claim @ 18 on a 1.8 HLX)so i had to repair the shitty Ford KA, and my own pocket, i want to get my money back and take it to another garage. To make matters worse there is overspray on my tyres, wheels and all inside the arches. HE DIDNT EVEN BLOODY TAKE IT THE CAR OFF THE LAZY FOOL. this is why i want to take it elsewhere.
Any help would appreciated

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

right sorry didn't see its not an insurance job, first thing, you're 18 he thinks he can fob you off, tell him about the overspray, tell him you want it coming back perfect, with no overspray, and you want it asap! (while you're doing this though, i'd recommend that your dad goes in - i know this might seem petty, i'm not saying that you can't deal with it yourself, but it seems to me he thinks he can fob you off)

don't take any **** off these pikey places that do pikey jobs!

warn him that if he does a **** job again you will expect your money back - other than this, get your money back now - and take it somewhere else!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

Sale and Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 as amended in 1994

Section 13 - the service must be carried out with reasonable care and skill (proper standard of workmanship)

Section 14 - resaonable time etc

Section 15 - reasonable price etc

These terms are imlplied in every consumer contract for services and if broken mean u can end the contract and get your money back.

Then u can sue for damages for any losses, e.g. paint on wheels.

If it's really bad get a solicitor to write this in a strongly worded letter to the shop.

Finally my law degree comes in handy, lol.

Hope this helps, any questions just ask.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help.....Crap Paint Job!!!!

Sorry to inform you about this but, all the prices you are quoteing for panel work is expensive... if you ever need stuff doing and you live near essex then contact me!!!i will get it done loads cheaper for you!!!

If i was you, dont take your money back yet, keep taking it back, finding floors in his work each time, getting more and more angry...you might end up with a mint job and get your money back...at the bodyshop i work at we had a jag in for a respray in black, there was loads of polishing jobs missed, basically the bloke kept coming back and ended up paying £400 for a full respray on a JAG!!!and it was as good a factory by the end of it!!

stick at it, you could end up very well off!!

if he has a good rep then he will keep trying, if you give out bad publisity then his business will suffer from it...tell him this, not as a threat...just say something like...'i expected a better service from some one with your rep', bad publisity would mean he could lose any contracts with insurance companys he has!!these are worth a fortune!
