Just doing an oil and plug change.

Just about to finish and noticed that the end of HT lead 4 has disintegrated. I can't see the bits off the end of it in the spark plug holes.

Looks like they must have dropped into the engine when I took out the old plug.

Is this bad news?

Any help appreciated.

Danny

surely the HT lead would have been well away from the plug before you took the plug out?

if it has dropped in it aint good news, soz :(

unless you find it you have to presume it's fell into the engine.

I just looked at the lead as i was putting it back on and saw that the rubber end bits were missing. So i assumed that they'd broken off and stayed down in the holes with the plugs and without me realising they must have dropped into the engine when i took out the plugs...If you see what i mean.

Anyway i started her up, probably not sensible, but she seems to be running ok. Made a bit of a rackit at first then settled down...just put that down to the new oil getting back into the engine. So i may have been lucky, can't for the life of me think where the rest of the lead is mind.

Do you mean the supressor cap as I can't see how a HT lead would have fallen onto the cylinder head.

If the supressor cap has fallen in, (which I douby very much); you are in deep, deep trouble from the moment you start your engine.

It's just the rubber that covers the end of the lead. I'd say about 3-4mm of it has come off. just looks like it's degraded and broken up a bit.

I'll try and get some pics up if I can borrow my housemate's digicam. but like I say seems to be ok now.

Ok here we are.

One on the right is the broken one, on the left is what it should look like.

Cheers Sven, that's reassuring to know... i'll definately be down to hellfords for some new leads tomorrow though. Think this is their way of telling me they're due for retirement.

if it rubber and it in engine, surely it wnt do much, wdnt they just burn up and get suckoed out the engine?

INSURANCE IS GAY!!!

lead

Nah! that should be ok, probably disintegrated before it dropped in the plug hole. Will have burnt away ok

didnt the end stick on the top of the old plugs? i would saw it would be unlikely it would fall down the plug hole!

Rummer only, so it shouldn't do any harm, but I would be tempted foe en engine flush, prior to an oil and filter change.

By the way - this is the man who didn't cover up the bottom end of a Suzuki X7 when fitting new top end bearings. I dropped the cir-clip that holds the gudgeon pin into plase, right into the crank casing.

I was very, ever lucky as when I turned the kickstart by hand, the clip was stuck to the middle of crank, with oil residue. Next time - pluc the holes!

I didn't make the same mistake twice and I suspect that you wont!
