Hi,my Ducato 2.5 TDI from 1997 has a problem with the heater fan.It only works on position 4...
Do you have any idea? Can be the switch? can be a resistance? How can I remove the swith in the panel?

If it only works on 4 its most lightly the resistor or the thermal fuse on the resistor digger 58 came up with a nice simple fix for the thermal fuse if you search on here for thermal fuse you'll find it.

Thanks a lot for the answer, could you please tell me where I find the resistor here with this thermal fuse.?could you post a picture, even a draw??Thanks.

resistor is always adjacent the fan for cooling purposes. You can see the oval hole for it here next to the blower motor hole.

Hi,again thanks for helping...I've seen the resistor and the fuse and even it goes near the heating fan...Does it mean I have to retire the entire front panel to fix the problem??Is there an easy way to change the resisto
r??

Get down on the floor under the heater cowl and look for the oval lozenge shaped part, secured by two screws, under the heater body/cowling next to the fan blower motor (the photo above shows it's location - bottom right of the picture...but it's been removed in that picture, so there you can only see the oval hole that it lives in)

Take the screws out, withdraw the thermal resistor, brush it CAREFULLY, to remove any dust/crud, and then.........now here's the good bit that is my big secret that I first shared here many years ago now.......put it in a plastic bag and just pop it in your house freezer for 24 hours.

Whilst it's out, have a good ferret round inside whatever parts of the inside of the cowling you can reach to clear crud, dead leaves etc.

The next day, replace the resistor and bingo, fan speeds 1 to 3 should work once again.

That'll be £380 plus VAT from a Fiat garage, or free (apart from the big drink you're gonna buy me) to do it yourself.

What does freezing do to the fuse!:If it has blown how does that fix it?

It's not a fuse.
It's a sort of step resistor, with little bi-metal strips.
Freezing it for 24 hours resets it mechanically.
If the fan works on 4, you've not got a blown fuse, you've got a non-working step resistor. Do the above fix.

4 is wired direct and bypasses the resistor

I thought they are a thermal fuse with the temp stamped on them

It does most lightly he had a bad contact that disconnecting an reconnecting solved.

I think you are confusing the 2.8 engine model Ducato with the earlier 2.5.
The OP has the problem with the fan motor step resistor his 2.5 TDI model Ducato, not with the different later model Ducato.

They all have a 'step' resistor
position 1 goes through all 3 resistor sections
position 2 goes through 2 resistor sections
position 3 goes through 1 resistor sections
position 4 bypasses the resistor and supplies the fan

There is no thermal fuse, strip or thermostat that can be reset by putting it in the freezer probably had a loose or burnt contact that got cleaned up by plugging in and out the resistor.

Thanks, everybody ...I´ve taken the resistor off...I´ve putted the tester on the thermal fuse and it seems it´s cutted...May I change this hermal fuse? Does anybdy know the value to buy it?

Hi,well..thanks for all,verybody...I´ve finally bought a thermal fuse and solded it with Stain.It ´s a 250 V ,10 A , 184 º C one.Now the 3 other positions of the heater fan work normally.I hope it´ll be for long...Again,thank you all for helping. WIN_20170314_20_59_00_Pro.jpg

Hi,well...In the end,I got suddenly a strong burned smell and the fan stopped .Now it doesn't work in any position,so
I'll have to change the entire fan

Hi,I had to change the Heater Fan and I putted a new resistor too...For the moment,it works..Thanks everybody for helping.
