I agree it's not the most stylish thing about, but it's a good alternative to the Yaris, has a range of good engines and a 5 year warranty too.

I'd also suggest a test drive in the Mini too, but I guess some people may well object!
Mini's more expensive though.

A 70 plus year old Lady in my Flats has had fiat 500 for 1.5 years now, she loved mine so much she ordered one with in weeks of mine arriving, said she'd always hankered after the originals(y), but now she could afford a new car. So I don't have a problem with old people driving them its got to be better than the metro auto an old bloke drives also in my flats

I HAVE....

It was ****e!!!!!

We looked at one for the wife, bought a top spec Honda Jazz instead. Although it may shortly be getting chasnged for a new Nissan Cube.

A Honda?? I'll look forward to hearing all those OAP comments again!

Seriously though, I liked the Honda too. The OP could consider that, particularly if they need that bit of extra room. There's a new Vauxhall Meriva out soon too, which looks quite attractive. I'm still not convinced by the rear-hinged doors in the back though. I've seen some good deals on Mazda 2s too, so wouldn't rule those out either

Worst. Interior. Ever.

Ok, all cars are rubbish apart from a Fiat 500. The whole lot, Fords, Vauxhalls, Toyotas, Daihatsus, Mazdas, etc etc etc. The OP should either by a 500 or nothing at all.

Unless s/he fancies a Skoda Fabia:D. They always seem to do well in the satisfaction surveys :yum:

Yes. This is exactly what I have said in my numerous contributions to this thread and others on the same topic. You've got me figured right out. I also didn't test drive any other cars when I bought my 500, and based that decision, and my opinion I just wrote on pure hearsay, rumour, and reputation.
Please note: Some of this post might not be quite true.
I also didn't want to like the Mazda. At all. I would have hated to have liked it. I always wanted a 500 more than any car in the world. Ever.

I test drove quite a few cars and the fiat was one of the worst handling, worst visability, highest price, highest servicing costs, longest delivery time etc etc

Still bought one.

What I really should have bought was the Hyundai i10 or Kia Picanto as overall they were the best - lol :yum:

How about the new Citroen DS3. It is up as a rival to the Mini and 500. Apparently it's " anti retro" according to the ad campaign despite the name, the two tone paint, lots of chrome and painted dash with big round chrome dials. Website is very similar to Fiats with loads of add on options.

Quite liked the new C3 I saw at the stealership the other day :)

My mum has an 08 Sirion, the new Subaru Justy is based on this car as is the Perodua Myvvi! The 1.3 is nippy and frugal, the ride is pretty soft, bit sloppy in the corners but the main thing about the Sirion is the rear legroom, it's amazing, i can sit behind my mum and literally stretch my legs out! Also the back seats can fold completely flat to make a bed etc. The seats are really comfy too. It's awesome, and in SX trim looks a tad sportier!? Daihatsu make solid reliable cars, I've had 4 or 5. She had a Panda and hated the thing (only did 1800 miles before she sold it!) she loves the Sirion to bits, and she's not that old either!

No, City car and Supermini are indeed the same class. The mk1 yaris was a supermini, but new Yaris more of a small family car with the Aygo taking over the Supermini possition with the IQ.

I personally would say go for the Yaris. Almost faultless reliability (mums had a mk1 from new. 120k in 9 years and no faults!! :)). The Yaris will also hold its value alot better, aswell as being alot more universal due to its size.

Jon.

NO!! to you too Jon- city car and supermini ARE different classes of car- technically a city car is an 'A' segment car, and a supermini is 'B' segment- they have different markets, are a different size, vary in engineering, and most clearly price point.

think ford KA- A segment ford fiesta- B segment

toyota aygo A segment- Yaris- B segment.

hyundai i10 a segment hyundai i20 b segment

where the boundaries become blurred are with 'premium' small cars- ala
500, toyota IQ and BMW mini....city car sized, supermini priced....

and dont get me started on resale values....!

This. If you want a car with bags of character, they look a superb choice IMO. Both them and the Nissan Cube are sort of tempting me away from my 500 a bit, given how many BNW ones are on the road and how rattly my bloody window is getting.

But then the 500 will look great once it's decked on some euro style wheels so I'll probably keep it
