Technical Head Tank Cold?

Technical Head Tank Cold?

the little pipe from the throttle body or inlet mani should get hot on thermo syphon first before the other pipes - it is blocked if is not hot and the header tank gets hot on the coolant from the little pipe.

don't run the engine until you fix it as the little pipe acts like a automatic bleed for the cylinder head to a degree

you may want to use a suitable coolant flush after you drain and use an air line on the header end of the little pipe and perhaps replace with new just on case

sorry

This is a 16v so the little pipe to tb, is T-back into the water system.

Everything is warm, the heater is Warmish !

Could i blocked/semi blocked matrxi cause this?

The fan comes on and off as it should and maintains below 90 degrees.

Thanks!

Did the header tank get hot before or have you just noticed? The standard header tank should act as the by-pass.

Yeah it was hot before !!

It was on a rush it was just before i packed up before flying back to london. Just had a quick check, so really need to go through it again.

Just looking for a list of things to check.

Yes, I've had this. A lot of sludge in the header tank and the small hose clearly not doing anything because of a blockage in the manifold. Remove inlet hose from rear of manifold, remove hose from header tank and blow down it to confirm whether this is the case.

I worked at the blockage with boiling water and a compressor. I was eventually successful.

with your 16v the header tank may run cool in winter but the little intake pipe and the inlet should be hot soon after start up.

did you flush the cooling system?

try removing one end of little pipe with engine cold if you don't get coolant out of each end don't run engine...

Hi Ming

It is the cold weather the header tank may be cool for a long time if there is not a little pipe like in a 1100 single cam feeding hot coolant into it even when pump is stationary.

The Mx-5 headers run near to ambient as they have no thermo syphon at all yours should have some?
