Just browsing the forum - took head off son's Punto today - head gasket gone.

Do I need to remove the camshaft to get the head skimmed (can't remember if there were valves protruding below the level of the cylinder head face - and can't get access to it to look right now!

Any comments appreciated!

Assuming that the engine setup is roughly the same as the Mk1 1.2 8v, when I got my head done I did not have to remove the Camshaft to get the head skimmed as it was the bit at the bottom that needed doing not the cam end. Needs to go through the process of skimming that 1/1000th of a mill layer or whatever from your block to get your head to sit level again when you re-attach it. Try not to go to any bodge-job mechanic though, if you can go to a recommended one from one of your mates. Last thing you want is to get it done and it does it again 6 months down the line! (y)
