Technical Hatch wiring, switch

Newbie here. I bought and installed the hatch repair harness for my daughters 2012 Pop. When I probe the 3 prong harness for the hatch switch, I get 5.3 volts for the license plate lights and only .35 volts for the switch feed. Any idea why so low?

The switch earth's the signal wire to open the boot/trunk I would work backwards in the loom well before it goes up to the roof line, yellow wire with green stripe if it's the same as UK spec (clip your probe((if not sharp)) to a knife blade and poke through insulation?) to check voltage

I made very sure to cut only one wire at a time and check for continuity in the new wire before connecting. It's very easy to crosswire things when not extra careful.

Good advice for anyone catching this problem sufficiently early. Sadly by the time many folks realise what's happened, quite a number of the wires have broken completely.
