Apologies if this has been covered before. I woke up this morning to a flat battery and a dull thudding sound coming from the sub. I "THINK" I must have left the head unit on all night, just didnt notice because the volume was turned down. Im used to the Visteon stereo that powers itself down after 20 mins. Is there some way to wire the headunit / sub so that its only on when the keys are in the ignition?

Yes there is but it would literally mean that you can only use it with the ignition on. You just run a fused wire from the ignition to your head unit.
I tried it like that but didnt get along with it, but i use the stereo a lot without the engine on.

run a toggle switch from the iso live wire at the back of head unit and switch on remote wire for sub, then you can just switch off sub and headunit when you leave your car... thats what i'm going to do soon. might put an led in to remind me to switch off

Thats whole load of effort for no reason. Your amp turns on when your head unit does as it has a remote wire. So you'd only need one switch to turn your head unit off, the amp would power down with it.

Also most headunits have an off button (thins is different to standby) or if its an aftermarket headunit just remove the fascia (as your supposed to do, thats what they're designed to do) and that will power down everything.

Pointless adding extra wiring and ruining the dash by adding a switch when it already all exists?

Thanks for the replies. My JVC head unit is a double din and not a face - off. The day it drained my battery I was worried something was wired up wrong and I disconnected the sub from the battery, but its now reconnected and it hasnt happened for the past couple of days so Im pretty sure I just left it on by accident. I just hate having a flat battery and need to get used to checking its off and not just volume turned down. I wouldnt know where to begin with wiring it to the ignition, but Ill keep it in mind.

thats what i do just remove the faceplate, it helps with security which is an added bonus

not much good if the face plate isnt removable though :(

its a pretty easy job what i said, and i know the remote wire turns on the amp but sometimes (hungover) you don't want massive bass so easier to just have a switch to turn it off instead of going through the menu. Plus when listening to music without the engine on the amp will drain the battery so switch to easily turn off. And my head unit you have to hold the off button for like 4 secs to turn off completely - switch much quicker and easier. I'm making a switch panel anyway to go into centre console for other things like day time running lights and halo rings so switches for ICE can go on there
