My Other IBM/Hitachi is on its way out.

I can hear the familiar sounds.

Why would a manufacturer make a Disk that don't last? dont they realise companies might have valuable porn on there and if they lost it will never buy another product with their names on it?

I really can't be asked to buy a new disk again so soon.

LOL this is where they got there dreded name from . Its almost as if they have a set date / time when they fail as it did it on my Fiancee's brother computer. The main hdd failed then secondary went a week later! both IBM Deskstar's.

You mean the 'deathstar'

Samsung Spinpoint seem pretty decent for their price. I've had one Maxtor die after a lot of use. My other Maxtor is fine at the moment.

Now got my 36GB 10,000rpm scsi drives.. hehe

I got another 320Gb Maxtor recently, and on the bottom, it is made by Seagate - I was in the shop, and we compared the same spec 'Seagate' next to it - only difference was the price.

Trans, is this the new hard drive you've just installed? If so, surely it's still under guarantee? Better get it backed up though before the information disappears, then go and have a right moan at the place you bought it from.
:yeahthat:
However IBM drives aren't fantastic. Personally use WD and never had issues.

No tis the other disk I bought soon after I bought the first one for more space, when I made the purchase I bought the same manufacture, just a larger size.

It should still have a couple months of life left on it still considering what happened to the last one of the same type.

I can't afford a new Disk just yet, I am contesting a Bus lane fine so may have to pay up large amounts for that (n)

Someone sort me a winning lotto Ticket, I want to earn more money but no one wants to employ me

They were not actually manufactured by IBM they where sub contracted to some poor excuse of a factory in taiwan!. Now they sell under the Hitachi brand STAY AWAY! :p.

Yeah both WD and Maxtor rate highly in my books. Before I started my last job all the server HDD's where Hitachi / IBM I then put in a Po for 25 WD's the first week I was there lol ;) I then replaced them all one by one but wasn't fast enough there was one Maxtor and it failed the day before I was gonna replace it .

I dont backup my data on my home computer I have a seprate partition using a RAID 1 array on 2 disks and ive kept my data since 1997 I still have my first Mp3 I downloaded off Napster (aww the memorys :)).
