I use AB in Killie (only MM will get this!) and i park next to a wee burger van about three hundred yards away, order a triple decker go get my parts (this is quick cos the guys behind the desk are very knowledgeable) come back, get my roll and dump the stuff in the car, head back up the road, with money left.

Halfords are just stupid for prices, £5 for a litre of coolant, custard bought 3 litres the other day for £6 from a Vauxhall dealer.

I get some stuff of my local VX dealer cos it's good stuff and very cheap.

getting back on subject,

Yes halfords trade cards are wicked (assuming you shop at halfords), officially you need to be working for a mechanics, or have a mechanics degree or something.

but if i were you i'd do one of 2 things...

1.) try the above, print off the official website and make sure you speak to the manager.

2.) phone head office and find the official line, they will in turn call your local store and tell them to give you one

3.) make up some fake letter headed paper with a mechanics company name and your name... and address ect... of course dont do this... i'm pretty sure it's fraud...

They really are worth having though.

Halfords also have a price matching policy which includes trade outlets ie. motor factors. So long as the part is available within 20 miles and is in stock at the other shop I believe. If your local motor factors have headlight bulbs for £1.50 tell the man on the halfords parts desk, and point at his Price Match Promise sign, and he should match the price. If you can show him a few receipts from other motor factors he can give you a trade card anyway. The trade cards can be issued to anyone at manager's discretion, so long as you ask nicely !!!;)

price match is pointless, you need to prove that the item available elsewhere is
1. exactly the same
2. not in a promotional offer
3. sold by a VAT registered seller
4. sold at a lower price
5. available to the genral public

and even if they do accept your claim, you still pay the same price you would elsewhere, but you've wasted petrol going to halfords as well as the other place.

places that offer price matching know fine well that it wont get used very often at all. anyone who cares that much about saving money wouldnt be there in the first place. and if they were they wont have come from somewhere cheaper previously just to waste petrol and gain nothing.

The card would be rather good to me, for bits and bobs. i can get parts at trade price anyway, but stuff like mats, car wash n stuff might come in handy.

How do i get one ? :D
