More often than not garages don't have a clue when it comes to keys! Half of them think the transponder is a remote key! I've heard them called it responder, receiver etc

The transponder is in the key, not the fuse board. A mk1 Punto uses a glass id13 transponder which can be cloned. A mk2 Punto uses a glass id48 which can't be cloned so new id48's have to be programmed into the car itself using diagnostic or key programming tools.

In some keys the transponder is mounted to the remote board but still works interdependently to the remote locking. So if remote the battery dies the transponder will still turn off the immob so you can start the car but the remote locking won't work

The pic below shows an id48, id13 looks identical. So this is what will be in your key. I've got 2006 Doblo with a 1 button remote, it also has the glass id48 transponder inside as well as remote board. It's the same remote used in mk2 Punto

Thanks for that I understand how the key system works now on the Mk1

I'm hoping the ECU reprograms if I need to remove battery etc as I am just going to get the blue key cloned.

Unless someone confuses me even more :):):):)
 
garage are wrong, that's in the mk2 that needs body computer that is part of fusebox

Had my head bitten a little mentioned this to the Mechanic to be told actually I’ve done hundreds of these when people have lost keys and don't appreciate being told I don't know.

I have NOOOOOOOOOOOO Clue so will leave that one until I find out conclusively.

Luckily he don't hold grudges and I’m invited to his allotment this Sunday for a tour we are comparing sizes :devil::devil:

Anyway Due to the support on here I have worked out the best solution after a kind offer from a forum member.

buy tools and learn :)

Two jobs one allotment two grandkids Me thinks me got enough to be doing. Used to do much of he basic stuff breaks CV boot changes Wish bone replacements especially on Fiats as I had two Uno's lights work got in the way and it's been easier to pass on the jobs to local garages not that i've tended to need them much as I usually buy a run around run it into the ground then change but for some reason I want to keep this on the road if I can so will be looking to do some stuff myself again, infact my first job will be to replace the front disks as they are squeaking quite a lot.

the problem with going to Timpsons etc is that most of them won't go out to the car & test it. So you end up walking halfway across town back to your car to find that it won't turn in the ignition. So you then have to walk back to the shop to tell them.

You can't beat somebody that comes out & cuts the key with the car present so they can make any alterations there & then with no messing about going backwards & forwards
 
Take the bloody key to Timsons!

Squeaking won't be the disks, more likely pads or a sticking slider. But replace the disks anyway if they're outside the wear limits or show abnormal wear.

One of the forum members is sorting it out for me when he comes up this way. As for the disks they are outside the wear limits just slightly and I think they may be slightly warped.

Sorry if my questions or this thread has you exasperated but as I said previously Iv'e had two fiats both had the wishbone snap One on the motorway so I'm a tadd edgy with fiats and it was necessity that made me buy another at short notice (was in my price range )

I find I like how it handles and ticks all the boxes but as I have my grand kids in the car im damned well going to do my best to make sure they are safe. Now a key may not be a safety issue but just chatting and getting ideas of you guys is what I was hoping for. The key issue is sorted now so I will say thanks until I need more advice.
