My marea as just passed its mot
its ready for a new cam belt as its on 71k

icarnt aford to have it done
so its gotta go,

how much do you rekon a W reg marea is worth in mint condition low miles?

im going to throw it on ebay obviously iwill have to advise peeps it needing a cam belt change

but was just wondering what it wouid be worth rough ideas please

its a 20 20v boot model,

im gutted but its gotta go icarnt aford £350 to have it changed :(

hopefully it will raise enough to buy a marea estate s reg onwards me hopes :)

do it yourslf save on labour costs, the kit is about £100

ive had a look at it and it looks like a mission
i have asked around no one wants to take the job on even a fiat specialist didnt want to do it says there a full days work its either engine out or move the engine over to get access,

ive only had the car a few months and i paid well over a grand for it but didnt know or think about checking on the cambelt change :(

if anyone is going to buy a 2.o 20v mare please check its had a new cam belt before buying one !!

thing is you will only buy another marea that will more than likely need a cambelt, its sad to say but mareas etc just dont fetch much now, i have seen a 20v weekend on the bay for 600 quid tax & mot & new clutch. if you cant afford to get it done just ride it untill it pops, may not sound like the best idea however do some quick maths...

cambelt £350 saved
scrap value of car £120

thats £470 towards a new car!

Agreed - cambelt/tensioner could last for another 30,000 miles or more - or it could fail next week.

No-one can say for certain, but I'd reckon it's worth the risk - what is there to lose?

I'm with them two.

You know all the faults with your current car, and you know it's in good condition, so just keep running it until it goes BANG or you can afford to have the timing belt changed.

It's not an all day job, Rog at power italia takes about 2hrs to do the job, but always gives himself 1/2 a day incase summit happens.

Wen it does go bang, strip it for parts and flog them on ebay..... and scrap whats left for some money money :)

im with them 3 :) keep it and use it daily, might last ages yet.all depends on how hard you drive it.

Well, my first one, had 97k on the clock when i had the belts done, the second one died before i could even get it there, and my current one had 82k on the clock and is 12 years old when i had it done, it depends how you feel about your car, i was gonna run mine until it went pop but had second thoughts and the more i thought about it, the better it seemed, i could get the car i have for £900 with all the bits that have been done, so though i would get it done.

its upto you at the end of the day, but if its a good clean car and the saloon seems pretty rare now i would save up and get it done, i sorned my car until i could afford to get it done which was 2 months.
