grumbling steering

Im hearing a groaning/grumbling noise when i turn the wheel,sounds a bit like rubber rubbing(i hope!).any suggestions?I just forked out for a new exhaust,so id prefer not to throw more money at the mechanic.Its a 96 brava 1.4s

POWER STEERING

Check the high presure pipe for the power steering at the generator it will be leaking fluid out at the bracket-stay that holds it the pipe will need replaced ,the noise is air in the remaining fluid

Noisey Steering

I had a noisy steering problem. The garage replaced the power steering pump which cleared the noise for about a day. They contacted Fiat UK who advised them that they have had a number of power steering racks with faulty bushes which break up and travel around the system. They replaced both the pump (again) and the rack, so far its been ok.
