Hi , I got a 1.6 stilo and can't get a good mechanic to diagnose/sort my problem.
I need to force it getting in to gears, especially gear 1,2 and 5.
After I check with 3 mechanics in my area all of them recommend me to change the clutch and the gearbox to make sure will work after. Spend some money with the hope the car will be perfect again, but unfortunately problem remain the same, even they check the linkage and done the bleeding twice.
With the engine off is shifting alright, but with engine on I need to force it.
Any suggestion or a good mechanic around Sussex ? I already spent to much money to scrap it :(:worship:

I still can't understand how come in some morning when I start driving it, is shifting alright and after 10min is start grinding and also making a funny spinning noise in gear 1. (temperature?)

It does sound like the clutch is on the way out, so I would agree with the mechanics - you should look at changing the clutch.

Don't change the clutch and not the release bearing.. and don't change the release bearing but not the clutch. The cost of fixing this is mostly labour so it's a pity to change one part and then have the other one wear out soon after.

Also if you have a concentric slave cylinder (inside the bell-housing) I would change that at the same time.. since if that fails, it's also a gearbox-off job. If you have an external slave (on top of the gearbox) then it can be changed easily if it fails later, so you don't need to change it now.
