General grande punto OR skoda fabia ?????? plz help

You haven't said which model version of each {Grande Punto and Fabia} you are looking at.

I have the GP model which is pretty much like the Sporting model, but without the more powerful engine and disc rear brakes.

The Series 2 Grande Punto {2009 with red badge} fixed a lot of the problems that the Series 1 had.

Most people here seem to prefer having super fast cars, but the 1.4 8v is a very good engine for most people.

If gas mileage is a consideration, then you will need to think about how/where you drive. The 1.4 8v gets better gas mileage in the city, but the 1.4 16v gets better gas mileage in the motorways.

Before I bought my current car, I test drove several other cars including the Fabia. I wasn't impressed with the Fabia. It just seemed to lack something. Also, being 6 feet 1 inch {don't know the metric for that} the Fabia didn't feel comfortable.

The Grande Punto is seriously good value for money. Has that big car feel and on the motorway its incredibly composed and i thought very quiet.

Mine had lots of road rumble on rougher surfaced roads, but i put that down to the steelies as it was much quieter when i ran it on alloy wheels.

I cant judge skoda having never driven one, but they're just cheaper versions of VW/audi, basically the same car respectively.

Punto is much better looking than the fabia

The stock tires or tyres are rubbish for ride noise on rough surfaces, no matter if they are on steel or alloy rims.

There are plenty of good options out there when it's time to change the tires that have a lot less noise.

Excluding road noise, the stock tires are very good on all the other areas of performance for most drivers.

+++++

I forgot to mention in my previous post, that if you get the Gande Punto, make sure you get the spare tire and jack kit. The pump and goo is rubbish in most cases.

You will either have to order it for an older version {2006 - 2008, blue badge} or make a deal with the dealer, like I did, to get them to swap it from an older car they have sitting there.

I don't know what the Fabia has {spare tire or pump/goo} as I decided against it after the test drive, so I didn't look further.
