So, as a few of you may know, the GP is for sale. Recent developments mean I can just about justify running a petrol. Therefore I don't want to drive something that sounds like a van anymore, don't get me wrong, I love my GP but i've had it a year now and I get bored easily. I fancy a change so its got to go.

Anyway I've decided to buy a friends Fiesta ST, he wants the same money that I want for my GP, so the idea is I'll be side stepping and spending no more money than i'll get for the GP.

I've seen this ST go from standard to how it is now and I know the history of the carm its had no major problems whatsoever, and very minimal minor problems.

Its in white with white powder coated wheels, a full Miltek manifold right throught to decat and backbox which sounds amazing. Its lowered on eibachs and has a KnN 57i induction kit which actually gives gains because the standard airboxes are crap. Its currently running 174bhp and its about on par straight line performance with my GP. it handles and drives better than my GP also.

So I want to know your thoughts on the matter, what do you think of the car? would you have one? It won't really make a difference to my decision to buy it but I'm interested all the same.

Heres a pic from his sig on STOC so you ahve an idea of what it looks like. I personally think its lovely:

Looks very nice as fiesta's go. Would I own one? No. Even modified like it is I find them very boring to live with once the 'novelty wears off' and I'd end up changing again. Fiesta's and Fords in general have the same problem new VW's have which is the fact their just boring and don't have any passion. I seem to have the same mentality as you regarding cars and I'm sure you'll find it a mistake in 5months or so after you swap.

If I was in your possition I'd be looking at the 2003ish Honda Civic Type-R which are easily obtained for £7k.

I looked at the civic, I can't really justify the insurance. Otherwise I may have gone for one. Unfortunately alot of type r drivers don't know anything about cars, and they think a civic type r is the fastest car in the world.

I personally think the ford is alot more fun to drive than my GP, all down to personal preference though!

Great handling cars, although from every review i've read they say they are underpowered..

Although the new package seems to of addressed this.. (y)

Also as you no doubt know a fair few aftermarket packages available..

They tested the GGR and Pumaspeed ones in Septs Performance tuner mag and both were highly rated by them (y)

Personally i'd rather have the Fiesta over a diesel punto ;) or maybe a Focus RS :yum:

Standard they are underpowered definitely, but this one is running more than standard so not an issue. Yes it handles well, a hell of alot better than my GP!

Mountune do performance packages straight from factory, I think they do a 165bhp and a 185bhp package.

rumour has it the mountune option keeps in under warranty aswell ;)

I think they do look nice and i came close to getting one before i got my Tjet. Personally i wouldnt have one now but thats just because i am still enjoying my Tjet. Couldnt comment on the handling as i have never been out in one/ driven one. A lad i know has one and he was quite suprised at my tjet when i took him for a trip out. I might pop down and test drive one to see what they are like.

I'd reccomend a Tjet if you could get them for the same price but i know you cant and know you want something different to a GP so i wont bother. Good luck with it and i look forward to seeing it :)

Kris as you know mate, I was planning on buying a Fiesta ST (I've taken a step back now to re-evaluate my finances  )

I test drove an ST about a month back and hated it, then took it out again about an hour later and gave it a proper test drive (on my terms) and fell in love with it.

My basic view on it is, it's a bit underpowered as standard but the handling easily makes up for that. It really fills a massive gap in the hot hatch market between the likes of the Panda 100HP, Swift Sport, etc and the RS Clio 197, Civic Type R, etc.

My main gripes with it is the lack of a 6th gear compared to it's rivals, making motorway speeds a little high revving and juicy as well as the slightly tight revving engine (due to the restrictions mentioned below).

However I would in no way let that put me off owning on and it is still very much on my list (if I can justify it).

As for the power, the Mountune kit is very expensive for what it gives you however the fact that it's fully backed by the Ford warrenty is a big bonus (think of it as Ford's equivilant to Abarth's "Essesse" upgrade)

PumaSpeed are a great place to start if you're less worried about the warrenty (although all of their work is gaurenteed). Just shy of 200BHP is an easy enough target with the aid of induction/inlet/exhaust/cams and mapping.

Also for that little bit more over standard, K&N 57i (as Kris said) makes real world differences due to OEM part restrictions. The same applies to the Miltek free-flowing flexi pipe, replacing the standard 42mm restriction.

I think your mate's one has had a blend of all the right tuning packs to make it into the car that Ford 'should' have released from the factory (as they've now caught up with in the form of the Mountune kits).

All in all....................... go for it mate, dont think about it, dont question it.... GO FOR IT :slayer:

agree with all of that.

I took it for a proper drive drive tonight. I LOVE it! Sounds awesome, goes nice and hadles well. I want it :)

As long as he's still up for selling then i'm still up for buying it.

fiesta is better than GP in every possible way. ok its very girly- but so is the GP. at least the fiesta drives like a hot hatch, has a decent interior, and even some street cred too. the GP could never pull that off.

gtfo!!!!!!!! the ST will toss all over the GP in a straight line.
your GP does 0-60 in 9.2secs, which is pretty lame tbh. the fiesta does 0-60 in 7.9secs, which is a huge diference in real world terms.

He's GP is running 190bhp and probably twice the torque of the fiesta ;). 0-60 figures are for fags anyway IMO.

Just out of intereest whats he buying instead

He wants a clio 182 and a suzuki GSXR 600

I go on holiday expecting these guages to be finally finished.....

Never really liked the ST's, always thought they're over rated and abit slow for what they are. Saying that, I've never drove one myself. So my comments could always change. I hope you enjoy the new car!

He has the right idea going for the Clio 182. And as for the 0-60 times of the ST, the 182 does something like 6.5
