Sorry for a repeat post, I have more information regarding my issue now, so wanted to start again. Apologies if thats breaking the rules.

So I have the common problem of the boot lock not opening electronically. I purchased a replacement lock mech and the problem still remains.

The boot light never comes on, and the bulb looks fine. Tried bridging pin 1 and pin 3 but still no boot light.

The car does recognise when the boot is open and displays the hatchback open message or boot open message (whatever it is!). So that part seems to be working at least.

Ive tested the continuity on the wires from the back of the plug to the front of the plugs contacts so i know that they aren't corroded and that thats not the issue.

Im measuring voltages and voltage spikes when I push the boot release button. Though only going up to around 8V.

I get resistance fluctuations when wiggling the rubber flexi cable that goes between the boot and the car although not by much.

Socket 1 - Measuring a little over 1Mohm, goes down to around 0.9 when wiggled.
Socket 2 - Varying wildly with no pushing anywhere between 22Mohm down to 4.
Socket 3- 260kohms up to 330kohms when pushed.
Socket 4 - 0.5Mohm up to 0.6Mohm when pushed.

Pulled the rubber flex out to have a look at the wires, though its a pretty tight fit in there from where I have repaired the washer hose by putting in a bigger guage hose to connect the two broken hose ends. From what I can see the wires look fine, no exposed areas or fraying. I suppose that there could be some in the middle of the flex but thats almost impossible for me to do without cutting off the flex. Is cutting it off a good idea? I could cut straight through one side in a line and then just clip it back over the wires once checked?

Any help would really be appreciated, im getting close to my wits end with it, all the boot is hanging out with the wires hanging!:worship:

Cheers!

So after cutting away at the flex, the fault presents itself rather spectacularly!!
Black and yellow cable is severed.
Green and yellow cable is severed.
White cable is severed.
Brown cable is frayed and exposed.
Both black cables frayed and exposed.

Nightmare!!! Can someone please walk me through how I can go about repairing this? I guess im gonna have to solder them?

Solder preferably yeah with heatshrink. There are connectors to bridge cables back together but soldering would be better.

Hi guess he did... forget about re-soldering / crimping: it's already tight enough with only the wires in the rubber !
I would source similar color/gauge wires and nice cut all the existing ones where some are dammaged. Then re-solder let's say 25cm long new wires (solder + heatshrinks) so to be able to have the new connections out of the rubber... See what I mean ??
They will ALWAYS break at the worst place, i.e. in the articulation/joint/rubber ;-)

Sorry, i didn't get notified about your messages. Yeah I sorted it in the end, bodger it in y own way. I wasn't comfortable soldering any of it so just cut out the damaged sections of wire and spliced in new wire by crimping. Only issue is i had to cut away the rubber flex to get at the wires and now it's just pushed back round the repair - doesn't form a seal. With how **** the boot sealing is anyway ( water pouring out the boot lid every time i lift it after its rained) I've had to duct tape round it to protect it. So yeah, dodgy as it is,it's been working fine for over a year now.
