Hi there everyone, new here! I’m a first time Fiat owner.

I recently purchased a 2006 GP (3dr) with a few minor issues that I want to deal with, and have found tips/solutions for. But for this issue I need some extra help. I have searched the forum but haven’t found a thread with both the exact problem ánd a fix.

The central locking (both with remote key and button on dash) works fine about half the time, but sometimes it doesn’t lock or unlock the passenger side. I can (un)lock it just fine by manually inserting the key on passenger door. It’s annoying, because I can’t trust my car to be locked unless I check it from the outside.

Considering it is an intermittent issue, my guess would be a wonky wire somewhere. I hope someone has a suggestion.

Extra question: if I use the manual lock on the driver’s side door, will that normally also unlock the passenger side? This would take away some ‘is it locked, is it not’ anxiety.

Thanks!

It may sound daft, but see if you get the same result with drivers door partly open or moved, reason being a break in the wire loom at the door hinge area as you mention fault is intermittent.
Note you may have to use a screwdriver to flick the door catch to the fully closed position to test this, however do not forget to release the catch with the door handle before slamming the door as you will damage the lock if you don't.
I had a similar wiring issue on a 2010 Fiat Doblo with the electric window switch, in the end I fitted a second hand door wiring loom.
Re manual key locking, it will still be using the same wiring so probably will not be trusted to work correctly.

I’ve tried, unfortunately with no real result. The lock itself works fine, by the looks of it.
