Gove's proposals for teachers

Gove's proposals for teachers

If there was demand for people with computer science degrees, then maybe they wouldn't finish up working in McDonald's on £12000 a year. Maybe they should do their research first and consider the chances of getting a job relevant to their degree. It's like people bitching that they have a media studies degree but can't find a job - well how did they not see that coming? Just because someone has a degree, doesn't mean the world owes them something. These are usually the same people who think teachers have it easy because they can find jobs easily, but that is definitely not the case. It all depends on chosen specialism - supply and demand, just like any other job.

And as for the "Those who can't, teach" comment - try it ;) Apparently, it's an easy job with long holidays and short days, and teachers get way too much money for what they do. But if all that is true, and it's such an easy life, why isn't everyone doing it?

Where did I say they are overpaid? I think their pay is fine. I do find it highly insulting when they start moaning when they have no idea about the 'real world'.

Should be thankful that their pay is not going down or that they even have a job when the country is deep in recession. Which lets face it a big chunk of the private sector have had to cope with that. Either pay cuts or longer hours on the same salary.

I love a good debate, Tbh I can't even remember what the original topic was about now

Yeah, apologies for the overpaid thing. It wasn't a comment made by you, but just the way the general public seem to perceive things.
However, loads more new teachers these days are a fair bit older and have struggled by in the 'real world' for years, but I take your point there. Most of the younger students on my course are so naive about pretty much everything, it can be quite difficult not to slap them sometimes.

Regarding pay going down - teachers now have to work until 68 (pretty much standard for everyone now), contribute an extra 3% to their pensions, 3 year pay freeze followed by increase of 1% then 2% the following year (so well below inflation). That amounts to a pretty epic decrease in earnings, especially when these proposed longer hours and shorter holidays the original point that got lost somewhere :) ) are taken into account.

I must admit, I had similar views to most people regarding teachers until I actually had a go at it, and I still find it hard to imagine how I am going to fit in all the stuff they have to do day in day out.

As with most things in life.
nobody really cares or views it from anothers perspective, until it affects them

I worked at Mc Donalds for 4 years from when i was 16-20. Its a piece of ****. Ill admit that at each stage of the Hierarchy you have stuff to learn. Customers are only a PITA if you let them. If somebody complains at Mc Donalds you just give them another big Mac and it sorts any problem.
